School Social Services

The School Social Services Department offers a variety of services to Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Newark as well as nonpublic and charter schools in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties:

  • On-site master level social workers provide assessment and individual and group counseling to at-risk students, parent outreach, staff consultation, and workshops for students, parents, and staff.
  • Prevention programs educate students about dating violence or substance abuse and teach the skills to prevent risky behavior.
  • Customized workshops are available for staff professional development, based on school needs.
  • Crisis intervention services help students and staff cope with trauma
  • Peer mediation services teach students to mediate conflicts between younger students
  • Staff can also consult with schools on developing school-wide programming, such as anti-bulling programs, anticipating the closing of a school, and sensitivity training for schools making changes in their student populations.
